The first building in Britain combining community facilities for all ages – library, youth activities, outdoor sports, eco-activity garden and an immersive multi-media citizenship experience. Parallel pitched roofs echo local vernacular buildings while providing an economical envelope for its multiple functions. The immersive space is a setting for film, sound and theatrical environments communicating critical life and citizenship issues such as urban hazards and global climate change, particularly for children. Rainwater harvesting, earth tubes, natural displacement ventilation, biomass and waterless urinals provide 50% renewable energy and achieved BREEAM Excellent rating.
