The new St George’s Primary School formed a hub for a recently developed suburb that had few other community spaces. Community consultation created ownership by local people before the school was occupied.

The hall wing, with extended brick walls, folds into the visitor’s entrance recess marked by a dramatic extended canopy. The classroom wing maximises natural light and access to the outdoor environment. Expressed timber cladding and structural rhythm give it a calm presence in the landscaped playgrounds.
